Step 1: Get your Teaching Qualification
The Level 3 Award in Education & Training, formerly referred to as PTLLS. This qualification is perfect for those who are wanting to teach private short courses in a salon or beauty academy. It covers the basics of teaching in adult education, including lesson planning, delivering training sessions, and assessing learners.

Step 2: Get Certified to Deliver Accredited Courses
The training courses you offer need to be accredited to be accepted for insurance purposes. Once you have completed our Online Level 3 AET Teaching Course, you will need to find an accreditation company.
In the UK, several well-known organisations provide accreditation for beauty training courses, including ABT and CPD. Each accrediting body has its own criteria, benefits, and application process.
To become accredited, you’ll usually need to provide proof of your teaching qualification, lesson plans (we include a lesson plan example in the above course for you to use) and training materials such as Certificate Template and Training Manuals, all of which can be purchased here.
The accrediting organisation will assess your submission to ensure it aligns with their professional standards.
Step 3: Get Insurance as a Beauty Trainer
Once you have got the approval from your accreditation company, there is just one last thing to do, get your insurance! A lot of the time, you can simply call up your current provider and add this to your existing insurance. Or, there are many companies who will help you with this. We recommend Policy Bee.

Level 3 Award in Education & Training (PTLLS)
To teach and assess in your beauty or aesthetics academy, you’ll need the Level 3 Award in Education & Training (PTLLS). This is an entry-level qualification that certifies you to teach and train others.
You must be at least 19 years old and have a good standard of written and spoken English to obtain this qualification.
What courses can I offer?
When you set up your own beauty academy, you’ll have control over what is taught. You can teach 1 to 1 courses, group classes and both in-person and online. You can teach any course that you hold a qualification in, so for example if you do Gel Polish and Lash Lifts, you can teach these 2 courses. It's that simple!
This depends completely on how much time you can dedicate to it! The course can be completed in your own time, and expires within 1 full year.
We include a Lesson Plan Example in our teaching course, meaning you can use this as a template to create your own!
You can make your own yes, however this is very time consuming! The other alternative is using a pre-written manual from a reputable company. We have worked with Start Your Own Academy for many years, as their manuals are accreditation-friendly.
These manuals are fully customisable in Canva, available for you to implement your own branding style and logo, and of course, change the written content to teach in your own style. Check out the manuals available to purchase here.
